Onto day three....we had our first graphic design class this morning from 9-12. We worked on sketching lions and then actually "drawing" them from scratch on the computers because the lion is a netherlands symbol and is found all over the country. After that, we went to eat lunch at the University of Leiden again and then on a tour until 4. We saw lots and lots of cool places including what used to be a chapel in the 17th century and is now a University of Leiden building. There is a room upstairs (that I will put a picture up from) that everyone who graduates from the University can sign. Some people that have graduated from there include Winston Churchill and Nelson Mandela. Also, Einstein taught there becuase they had the best lab in the world at that time. President Nixon and President George Bush Sr. have also been there, among other presidents as well. (George Bush asked to sign the wall and they said they would not let him because he did not graduate from there). The earlies signatures are actually on a table in the room and date back to the mid 1600's. We also saw the house that our second president, John Adams, lived in while he studied in Leiden. Then we saw the school that Rembrandt attended. We also saw two different wedding parties. One was taking pictures at the University building and we saw the car outside they were taking after they got married (an old style white bug with a brief case on the back tied with a bow).We went to some very old churches and the city hall building that is huge. The second wedding party we saw was at the city hall building because couples who want to get married have to get a license at city hall before their actual ceremony or else the pastor/priest that does the wedding can be put in jail. Crazy right. The last thing we did was go to the Pilgrim Museum in the middle of town and listened to a guy talk about the pilgrims in Leiden. It is the oldest house to date in Leiden. So now that we have walked our 6 miles for the day, we are going to take a nap and then go shopping for the first time later today. Tomorrrow we are planning on going to Amsterdam so we will see what happens!
