Ohh where to begin. Today, being Saturday, was market day here in Leiden (as it is every Wed and Sat). We missed it on Wednesday and it is much smaller then) so we decided to see what this was all about. It took all of us about an hour to actually find it, but we finally managed. We thought we could just follow a bunch of people because we figured they would be going there too. Well, we were wrong, and ended up walking around unsuccessfully. When we actually found it, we were very excited. It was so different from anything we had ever seen. There were tons of people and tons of fresh foods and many little shops along with some music of course. For lunch we did not know what to eat...so what did we do?? We found a McDonalds and had some meet for the first time since we left home. Lets just say it was a very calming experience (seeing the very common golden arches). We were there from about 10-1:30 and then went back for a half hour break. Then we hopped on the train to Amsterdam. Our first thought was that we would to go the Anne Frank house, but for one, no one could give us good directions and two, we could not memorize it on a map and then go find it. Sooo we just started walking around; it kind of made us thankful to be living in Leiden. There were soooooo many people and we held onto our purses for dear life. We just kept walking, and I'm sure we saw some historic things, but we don't really know. We saw some rather interesting things as well....as is to be expected of Amsterdam :). But for our first trip there, it was a very successful one. We walked a good 8 miles today, which is seeming to be about our norm. We are now back "home" and ready to cook some pancakes (American style) for supper. Then we are more than likely going out for awhile considering we get to sleep in tomorrow (thankfully). Tomorrow should be a peacful day....maybe we will go out and draw. We are most definitely getting to know our way around Leiden very well..especially after being to Amsterdam and back...it makes us love Leiden that much more :) (not that we did not enjoy Amsterdam...it was just a little crazy compared to here)
